Bergoč Beekeeping takes pride in its long tradition of honey production (forest, acacia, linden and chestnut honey, honey with cinnamon, chocolate, beetroot juice and pollen and propolis), and the production of soaps (with honey, pollen and propolis), pollen, wax, candles, propolis and propolis tinctures. The Bergoč family has been practicing this trade since 1955, when they bought their first bees from the renowned Slovenian beekeeper Ivan Kranjc. The beehives they use are made of high-quality spruce wood and are the result of local development, having been improved by Anton Žnideršič well before the First World War. Their honey bees forage mainly in forests on linden, spruce, acacia and fir trees all over the Primorska region. The quality of Bergoč honey products, which the family aims to preserve in the future, has been cknowledged on numerous occasions. Various tasting events are possible for groups of 10 to 15 people by prior arrangement.

KERSEVAN BEEKEEPING
Surrounded by woods, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the Kerševan family busies itself withbeekeeping. They have been practicing this trade since 1983, when the current owner inherited five bee families. The families, now totalling twenty five, are the result of selfless dedication and love for bees, as well as the rich and undamaged surrounding forests in which the bees forage. The beehives are also taken to other carefully selected parts of Slovenia. Their locations are secret, but if visitors are particularly friendly, they may be given a clue as to their whereabouts. Different types of honey, pollen and several other products are always available at their home. The tasting of honey products is possible for groups of 10 to 15 people by prior arrangement.
One typical product is the “axe in honey”, a pretty jar of superior honey in which a waxed wooden axe is immersed. Legend has it that, long ago, when a man was cutting down trees, he accidentally stumbled into a hollow trunk full of honey and bees. Since then the Slovenian saying that “someone’s axe falls into honey” means a stroke of luck, an unexpected improvement. If you would like to wish someone good luck and success, such a present is a nice way of expressing that sentiment.

BOSKIN BEEKEEPING
Honey production and bee care are the two main missions of Boškin Beekeeping from Žigoni, which has been working hard for several years to maintain bees in harmony with nature and in accordance with sustainable development. Its activities reflect a profound respect for bees and their role in the ecosystem. The choice of honey is extensive, from floral to forest varieties, with acacia, chestnut and linden honey accounting for the majority.
PRIMOZIC BEEKEEPING
If you happen to wander near Renče, you should definitely stop at the Primožič Beekeeping. There you can find chestnut, wildflower and creamed honey in different combinations, produced with the help of the bees in a completely natural way. There are also various other products made of honey: propolis, natural wax, candles, natural creams with wax and olive oil, honey liquors and the specialty, Imunodam, a product that combines the beneficial effects of honey with purple coneflower extract for a daily boost to the immune system.
