While in the past it was predominantly a winegrowing and fruit growing farm, its new young owner has begun breeding pigs as well. Beside fruit growing and pig breeding, Pavel and his wife Tjaša have also taken up meat processing. Their guiding principle is that meat products should be made from home-bred animals, according to ancient recipes, using natural spices and no other artificial or harmful additives. The farm offers everything relating to pigs: from live pigs to half pigs, sausages, cotechinos, cured meat and more. In the summer the farm also sells peaches, while in the autumn you can buy persimmons and kiwis. |
Frlanova Kmetija Farm
The Bric family continues the long and successful farming tradition at the Frlanova Kmetija Farm. The Furlanfamily, ancestors of the current owner, bought the farm, which is now more than 400 years old, back in 1853. Numerous old photographs and other objects around the house bear witness to the long and interesting history of the farm.
Today, the farm is best known for its winemaking. For several years now, the wines from the Frlanova Kmetija Farm have indeed ranked among the best wines from the Vipava Valley, as evidenced by the numerous awards they have received. The farm’s specialties include so-called straw wines, produced using a process similar to that used by past generations and revived by the current owner in 2003. After the grapes have been picked, they are put on a layer of straw in wooden boxes and left to dry until spring, when they are pressed. This juice is then made into a wine of superior quality, distinguished by a particular taste and bouquet. The farm also grows fruit, with peaches as its flagship, and has been engaged in tourism since 2007. In the old, pleasantly furnished wine cellar, there is room for up to fifty people, who can enjoy genuine dishes from the Goriška region made exclusively from local ingredients. |
SMODIN FARM
The Smodin Farm from Vogrsko is successfully involved in the integrated production of apples, peaches and grapes.Integrated production guidelines regarding sustainable development promote health-friendly farming with a minimal impact on the environment. This activity was already practiced by the family’s ancestors, who now serve as a source of inspiration and experience for future work. To ensure the improved quality of fruit products, the orchards have been recently equipped with an irrigation system and anti-hail nets. Beside established apple varieties, such as Gala, Idared, Golden Delicious and Jonagold, the farm also offers varieties, such as Fuji, Topaz and Mairac, which are increasingly present on the market. Its offer is enriched by excellent natural fruit juices. The products are sold in the farm’s shop in Vogrsko, while the farm only wholesales its products in the event of a surplus.
